United nations makes its third communication with India in the matter of Jammu and Kashmir public


United Nations has made public its third communication on the matter of Jammu and Kashmir public. Grave concerns have been raised by the Four Special Rapporteurs regarding the use of excessive force and ill-treatment during the arrests and detentions.

The Four Special Rapporteurs are based on torture and other such methods of cruelty, inhuman or degrading punishment, extrajudicial summary or arbitrary executions, minority issues, and freedom of belief and religion. These concerns were forwarded by to India by the UN on May 4, 2020, and have been made public now.

UN has forwarded three communications to India, first of which was sent on August 16, 2020, and was based on restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The second communication was forwarded on February 27, 2020, based on mass crackdown targeting the ones displaying discontent against the decision.
